Sound Particles’ Space Controller software offers the facility to pan in surround and immersive directly from the palm of your hand. Using twinned plug-ins for various DAWs, and a phone app, objects can be panned in formats from stereo to 7.1.2, ambisonics to binaural by reorienting a mobile device.
“We felt that using knobs, joysticks or even the mouse were not the best way to position sounds in 3D, so we searched for alternatives”, said Nuno Fonseca, founder and CEO of Sound Particles. “Using a mobile phone makes the process straightforward – you simply point the device to the place where you want the sound to be positioned.”
The plug-in can operate in Cube and Sphere Modes; control sounds either as a single mono sound source, using independent channels, rotating the entire soundfield, or in symmetric-like approaches; while the same phone you can control multiple tracks, or use multiple phones to control different channels. Even without the app, you can still use Space Controller as a regular 3D panner.
Connection between the phone and the DAW computer can be via Bluetooth, or wi-fi should the computer be located our of range. connection. The software will be available as Space Controller ‘Standard’ option, that can operate in formats up to 5.1, with a ‘Studio’ option expanding that up to 7.1.2 Atmos configurations. Both these versions are available now.
